Highlights from Mexico City

11 Sep 2009

Existing and potential MIKE by DHI users participated in a one-day introduction course in MIKE Urban Flood. The course was held in Mexico City at the training facilities of SIGSA, DHI’s local software agent.

The participants represented federal and states authorities, local municipalities and private companies. Higher priorities are given to improve infrastructure and mitigating measures to meet increased urbanization and more frequent floods. Consequently, increased focus on methods and tools, such as MIKE Flood, to be used for planning, design and operational purposes are shown.

An opportunity to present and demonstrate some of DHI’s technologies and meet with many hundreds of local GIS users came with the invitation to participate in the annual SIGSA-ESRI User Conference 2-4 September. A presentation in plenary entitled “Water modelling in a world with challenges’ gave an introduction to; key methods applied by DHI water policy unit to ensure good water governance, examples of technologies and services offered by the DHI group to meet the challenges of urbanization, energy, food supply, climate changes, infrastructures and health.

A workshop was arranged where local users of MIKE by DHI software gave examples of their model applications;
