FEMA approval of MIKE 11

  FEMA approval of MIKE 11

Yet another important milestone for MIKE 11 has been reached. The US Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has recently approved and included MIKE 11 on their exclusive list of hydraulic models accepted for use in the National Flood Insurance Programme (NFIP). One of the implications is that MIKE 11 can now be applied on projects which include flood risk mapping and other projects related to the National Flood Insurance Programme.

In order to obtain approval from FEMA, models must comply with Paragraph 65.6(a)(6) of the NFIP regulations which states (extract):

  • The model must have been reviewed and accepted by a governmental agency responsible for the implementation of programmes for flood control and/or the regulation of floodplain lands.
  • The model must be well-documented including source codes and user's manuals.
  • The model must be available to FEMA and all present and future parties impacted by flood insurance mapping developed or amended through the use of the program.

MIKE 11’s position on the market is as strong as ever. Record breaking sale of MIKE 11 during the first half of 2000 has demonstrated that MIKE 11 is indeed the chosen software package for modelling of surface water world-wide. The FEMA approval is expected to strengthen the position of MIKE 11 on the market further. Read more:
